OK FOLKS! I bought a Android tablet. it's a HAIPAD M701.

YEA BABY. Haipad doesnt rhyme with ipad at all. Like my pic of it? so do i.

Model: Some chinese company. likely same one as all the rest of the tablets.

Size: 7 inch. anything bigger is a dog, dawg. ever tried using ipad in bed? exactly. 7" is best.

Design: looks sort of like the ipad but 7". much sexier body then the galaxy tab.

Price: $140. purchased from craigslist. so someone brought this to my country from china and I met him and bought it. he made money. I got to try to tablet before buying. craigslist is your friend!

- usb: usb 1.1 high speed interface and usb2.0 OTG (whats OTG? its not defined here)

- audio: boring typical specs. i wont argue these points. has mic, speaker, headphone output.
- screen: size 7inch/10inch (one user manual for all products?). resolution WVGA 800x480/1024x600 (take a guess which is for the 7" size). OPERATING: Resistive touch screen (what did you expect for this price?)
- other: size: 193x115x14.3mm. also has size for 10" model. weight: 350mg (7"). battery 3000AH (7" model - Im stripping 10" specs).
- Annex (wtf?): power adapter, hdmi cable (optional), usb cable, certificate, quick guide and warranty card.

OK FOLKS. REAL SPECS:
- cpu speed: 720MHz. still better then lots of competing tablets, even expensive ones. but they lied.
- memory: shows 128MB in software. Hmmm.
- 3g: well if there's 3g then I can't figure out how it works. comes with provider info for china and parts of europe. no sim card slot. hmmmmm I think they lied here too.
- storage: built in 2gb flash memory. naturally. meh
- video output: wouldn't know - didn't come with the "optional" hdmi/composite cable. but does have a slot for one.
- accessories: does have a power adapter. does not charge through USB so this is a good accessory. comes with a mini usb to normal usb adapter so u can plug in a usb keyboard OR usb mouse. reeeeeeeeeeeeeeealy? thats unexpected and could make this a better unit then i expected.

so how is it?

initial impression: (major out of the box fail)

- hardware is sexy. great case design and build quality. but then i turned it on....
- stock os is AOSP 2.1 custom built by manufacturer for the haipad, was functional but not responsive enuff. my tablet went on craigslist the next day. tried rooting it following instructions all over web. fail. tried adding recovery. fail. even usb drivers on web = fail. fw updates = fail. froyo is in beta from manufacturer but has camera and video playback fail so not worth flashing.

extended review: (f***in A ;-> big improvements dawg)

- if u can read chinese or use google translate u can DL firmware for this model. in the FW zip there are WORKING usb drivers. change usb fail to success.

- now usb works adb works. now adb works clockwork recovery installer works. rooting still = fail but change recovery and adb fails to success.

- found one post in random ether of interweb saying "TRY SUPER ONE CLICK ROOT FROM XDA". f***in yea it does work. change rooting fail to success. This is getting good.

- found that if I google the architecture of the tablet instead of the "brand" I get lots of helpful results. found the best recommented 2.1 firmware 4 it that has DPI mods to make this tablet run @ the resolution it should be running @. Tried to flash it = fail.

- f***ed around 4 hours. problem with flashing official FW is that holding the buttons listed and plugging usb cable wont get u 2 fw update mode but takes u 2 clockwork recovery = fail. GUESS WHAT? hold down both of the side hardware buttons (back AND menu), turn on power switch (yea there's a SWITCH for power), plug in usb, wait a few sex... official FW updater SEES THE TABLET! update done. change FW update fail to success! ;->

- VIDEO PLAYBACK IS GREAT. tried VOB files = perfect playback. even high def. tried mk4, tried avi, tried mp4. all worknig so perfectly. better video playback performance then lots of media players and better included codec support. act1 video player kicks ass with this tablet.

- USB KEYBOARD OR MOUSE: THEY REALLY WORK!?!?!? how the F did they do that. usb keyboard is really fast, works instantly when u plug it in. with docs2go this is cool office computer. really i used it like that in a meeting. or use mouse and it shows a Fing mouse pointer and works perfect too. and no more resistive touchscreen issues (see later). tried both with a usb adapter thing and both failed so that needs work but wow this is unexpectedly sweet!

- AOSP LAUNCHERS SUCK BALLS. AOSP DRAWER CAN SUCK IT. Launcherpro is faster on this tablet then stock but still not 2running like it does on my android phone. threw on ADW EX in "quick" preset mode is REALLY F***ING FAST HERE! change adw settings 2 6 x 6 icons on home screens and 8x6 and 6x8 icons in app drawer 4 landscape and portrait. turned on default (really quick) drawer animations ("quick" preset turns it off by default). THIS THING IS FASTER THEN THE GALAXY TAB NOW IN UI. change speed from fail to success.

- RESISTIVE TOUCH SCREEN. 1 of 2 remaining fails. BUT ITS THE BEST RESISTIVE SCREEN IVE USED EVER. ive used LOTS of resistive screens. palms, nokias, generics, sh*t the list is long. this is totally fine but still capacitive would solve lots of user issues I came across with friends who tried to use this tablet while i watched. its "JUST" good enough.

- STRANGE speed and compatibility issues: many games have screen size issues in this higher dpi 2.1 FW. many 3d games don't work at all (wheres my 3d hw acceleration from the specs????). many apps r REAL FAST. some apps are DOG SLOW. big issue is screen scrolling speed can be real slow. and combined with resistive touchscreen makes it confusing to lots of users. have patience. scroll wtih finger then wait for it to see if it got it right. dont push this thing too fast in drag scrolling in web pages. MAJOR fix for browsing scrolling speed is 2 use OPERA MINI. works amazing on this tablet and scrolls way faster then stock. SKYFIRE works but has slow scrolling response and makes users go crazy. also skyfires flash video player is all pink and lipsync major fail so not worth the trouble on this tablet.

- NO FLASH - its running aosp 2.1. so no flash.

FUTURE: froyo is in the works but not done yet from manufacturer. hopefully will get done some day. underground froyo rom exists with similar issues to manufacturer froyo but overall better features than manufacturers froyo. when manufacturer solves video and camera then fix goes into underground froyo rom then we have great froyo tablet. maybe even 10.1 flash??????

this is super cool but choose ur apps wisely. try and expect fail. if app works great without scrolling issues or resolution issues then keep it forever cuz those are hard apps 2 find for this tablet. but if u get a few of those apps this tablet becomes a part of ur life that is F***ing good.

this tablet CAN be what u want it 2 be.

What is the most reliable android phone hardware?

galaxy captivate can burn out with froyo installed

that bell phone had the official froyo upgrade REVOKED due to hardware issues

the former most popular android phone HTC HERO has disposable touchscreens

BUT

we love android.  we want more.

IF you love your phone but don't trust it or ur self to keep it running well: insure it with a company like SquareTrade.  After market insurance on your android phone.  pricey.  anyone got experience with squaretrade?

What is most reliable?  Check this chart:

ok ignore the first two and the second last.  no kidding they are most reliable.  blackberry is made for business use and most of em aint exactly a phone for girls whod be part of the bling Aural sects.  iphone is a one off custom device with custom hardware and software and costs a lot and does what it does very well.  But it tells you how to run your life.  Should be clear to u that i do NOT see reason to tell or be told how to run ur life.

that puts motorola as most reliable and htc second but with vaguely a 50% increase in reliability issues.  everyone else (samsung is included here???) is a gamble of looks and price over intelligence.

What phone do you use?  is it reliable for you?  Have you changed phones since starting with android and did your previous android phone have hardware issues or just become EOL'd?

I mean it.  Loxdev really worked hard on that post.  Like watching a major political figure assuring the public of his innocence.  Loxdev is telling the truth here pretty much.  I like what he wrote.  mostly.


I have issues with statements like "Anyway that is the law, not me."  Yes the GPL is a legally binding agreement.  There are people who are trained to handle these situations.  You are NOT them.  It is NOT your problem.  You are NOT the court.  You are someone who is TAKING someone else to court over what is probably a matter of one person not conforming to a license agreement.  You are NOT there to ruin that person's life.  You are simply there to ensure that justice is found and the other person makes good on the license agreement.


too bad loxdev has zero damned clue that his original post on cronosproject was inflammatory.  The point I keep making is that yes, he was right  about the GPL.  BUT he handled it wrong.  It shoulda gone down privately.

Too bad that cronosproject.org forum is down thanks to the GPL team forcing it closed.  I wanna read that post.  I know u do too.

But the part I underlined in bold italics is what counts.

The suggestion WAS to email feeyo directly and the point WAS that it was a "small case".  Who took that suggestion and made it into a public outcry of illegal activity?

OK so loxdev has no manners.  sad but not un... common.  so some of the people on cyanogenmod say racist, homophobic and entirely demeaning personal insults.  They still are important people who bring us good roms and have fought the system to do so.
